The reserve is located in the east of the Baltic Sea and comprises 4 main islands and numerous islets and marine areas. It is in the transition zone between the temperate forests of needle-like leaves and broad leaves. Home to pine forests, fir forests combined with deciduous trees, mixed and deciduous forests, juniper and coastal prairies.
