Environmentally Critical Areas Network (ECAN) in Palawan

The Zonation of ECAN in Palawan is mandated by a National Law that applies only in Palawan. It relies on the 3 pillars of sustainable development: 1) environment - by providing maximum protection to the environment and biodiversity such as natural forests, coral reefs, seagrass beds, mangrove forests, and habitats of endangered species and endangered habitats ; 2) economy - by advocating for the best use of areas for development; and 3) equitable access to natural resources including the provision of areas for indigenous communities.
